The first-ever Million Kid Run on Global Running Day aims to get young people moving. The goal is to have a million kids around the world pledge to run on 1st June 2016. The Million Kid Run is about making fitness fun and inspiring kids to embrace running as a way to get healthy and fit.
Our school has pledged to run this Wednesday and we will also mark Global Running Day with a visit from Mick Clohissey, local athlete who is competing in the Olympic Games in Rio this August. Mick will be accompanied by Pat Hooper from Raheny Shamrocks Athletics Club. Pat is a former long distance Irish champion and Olympic contender (1980) Mick and Pat will talk to all the boys about athletics and then take them for a run on the astro.
We invite parents to run on Wednesday morning- it doesn’t matter what running experience you have, the idea is to get out there and enjoy the run, whatever level you’re at. Meet in the yard at 9am and take it from there……
Staff will run after school, everyone at his/her own level, and again the emphasis is on enjoyment.
Hopefully we will have a fine day and lots of fun for runners of all ages and levels!
