It is a privilege to welcome you to the website of St. John the Baptist Junior Boys’ School, better known to our neighbours as Belgrove Junior Boys’.
We are a Catholic school under the patronage of His Grace Archbishop Dermot Farrell. We cater for boys from Junior Infants to Second Class. We endeavour to create a pleasant, secure and happy environment and provide a broad, balanced educational experience which promotes a positive attitude towards learning, enabling our boys to recognise their talents and achieve their potential.
At St. John the Baptist Junior Boys’ School we aim to encourage and foster strong and positive home-school links. We are extremely grateful for the support and good will from the parents and families of our boys, our Parents’ Association, the Board of Management and the wider school community who collectively make our school the warm and welcoming school that we enjoy.
We have a complement of 38 dedicated staff which include mainstream teachers, SET teachers, SNAs, secretaries and cleaners, who all work together to make our boys’ experiences engaging, meaningful and fun!

Our primary school’s strengths in academics, sport, technology, and the arts create a well-rounded and vibrant educational experience that fosters every student’s potential.
As a 21st century primary school, we have embraced the benefits of technology to make learning more dynamic. All our classrooms are kitted out with an Interactive Whiteboard. We have iPads that each class get to use regularly throughout the year. We have audio systems installed in every classroom which sync up to a teacher microphone. This helps enhance student engagement and concentration.
As supported by educational research, we endeavour to plan active, hands-on, and playful lessons throughout all of our streams from Junior Infants up to Second Class.
We place great emphasis on literacy, numeracy, sport and the arts at our school. Pupils get to explore a variety of extra-curricular activities including GAA sessions, dance workshops, drumming workshops, Sing, Dance Act classes, a STEM week and an Art’s Day. This ensures that when they leave our school they are well-rounded individuals.
Pupils are given the opportunity to read widely, beyond the texts of the curriculum.
We believe that ideas can change life that is why our school plan is developed to encourage new ideas.
We believe that education should have a global reach that is why we make you ready for the world.
We are a highly respected school with high academic standards.
