Green-Schools update
Last week was a very busy one in Belgrove. Boys from each class in the School on a variety of routes in the School neighbourhood collecting litter as part of our Week of Action on litter. Clontarf is quite a clean and well-kept area, but it really was surprising how much litter was collected by each class. Items collected were very small- bottle tops, paper cups, sweet wrappers mainly. Several teachers remarked on particular ‘black spots’. For example, there was quite an amount of dog faeces on the green area beside the Protestant Church joining Seafield Road and Kincora Road. It is heartening to see most dog-owners now bagging the dog product but we still have a bit to go on that. Organising our Week of Action was another important step in our campaign to achieve our first Green Flag and I want to thank the Green-School Committee for organising it.
Active-Schools update.
The recently-organised mascot competition was a great success. We had well over 100 entries and selecting a winner was very difficult and took a considerable while. The Committee eventually settled on ‘Active Archie’ which was drawn by Harvey in first class. The Committee chose a winning slogan from another entry- Lochlann in Junior infants came up with ‘Ready, Teidí, Go!’ which really sums up what we are trying to achieve this year.
Finally, the Committee settled on our motto….. it reads ‘More kids, more active, more often’.
